Iron Mountain Road & Trail

The Iron Mountain Road and Trail is 13.1 miles of fun! This half marathon lets runners experience a gorgeous Upper Peninsula fall day in Iron Mountain, Michigan. The 7th annual Iron Mountain Road and Trail Half Marathon, Half Marathon Relay and 2-mile Moochathon takes place every September. The Iron Mountain Road & Trail offers a diverse 13.1 mile course with scenic diversity as it travels through historic downtown Iron Mountain, over the Chapin Mine Pit, alongside beautiful Lake Antoine, dipping into the picturesque Fumee Lake Natural area, back out and around the rest of Lake Antoine and back to downtown Iron Mountain. The effect of local community support and participation is the key to making the race a success and is felt, not only in the $35,000 donated to the Dickinson County Cancer Loan Closet, but also in the lives that are touched and changed with each footfall through the community.

Norte Youth Cycling

Located in Traverse City, Norte Youth Cycling sees biking as a powerful tool in promoting independence, freedom and confidence. Norte is dedicated to building stronger, better connected and more walk/bike friendly communities by empowering the young and young at heart. Norte’s youth-centered, active transportation- focused, neighborhood-based model combines four interconnected initiatives as a complete package to engage, empower and excite young people and keep them moving forward. These include Safe Routes to School: Encouragement and educational programs empowering students to actively get themselves to school; Pro Walk/Pro Bike Advocacy: Building stronger, better connected and more walk/bike friendly communities; Youth mountain bike club: Developing confidence, independence, and grit by way of pedal- powered adventures in our Northern Michigan forests; Youth leadership council: Assisting self-directed young people to speak up, stand up, get involved and do good in their community. Norte believes that nothing that they have done in Traverse City can’t be replicated elsewhere. By sharing knowledge, tools, and experiences of what works well and what doesn’t, Norte can be a resource and guide to get 10,000 kids and their communities active for life.

906 Adventure Team

906 Adventure Team begin as a small organization with nationally certified coaches focused on creating youth biking and mountain biking (MTB) opportunities for all kids in Marquette. Through collaboration with NTN Singletrack and Range Area Mountain Bike Association (RAMBA), they produce the 906 Polar Roll, the largest fat bike event in Michigan, and the Marji Gesick 100, known as the hardest single-day mountain bike event in the country. Proceeds from both rides go back to the cycling clubs and directly into the community to grow MTB trails, leagues and cycling programs. Because there is not a MTB league across the U.P., the kids jumped over the border to compete with their fellow Packers’ fans in neighboring Wisconsin, and last year, they took 5th place out of 47 schools. From establishing world class cycling events, and school cycling programs, 906 Adventure team has plans to incorporate additional health and nutrition programming, assemble a bike fleet to ensure every kid gets a chance to ride and take their programming on the road to neighboring communities. The sense of community that the 906 Adventure Team has created is vast. Cyclists, complete strangers and hundreds of volunteers come together to ride and/or donate their time to ensure the culture of mountain biking continues to grow and inspire young and old riders alike.
