LANSING, MI — Michigan Fitness Foundation (MFF) is pleased to announce Michigan Beef Industry Commission as the presenting sponsor for the 20th Anniversary Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Run. The sold out event takes place Monday, September 2 and is the only running event to take place on the iconic Mackinac Bridge. The Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Run is considered a bucket list run for many people. Participants travel from across Michigan, the nation, and international destinations to traverse 4.3 miles across Michigan’s largest architectural masterpiece in this noncompetitive event.
“Michigan’s beef farmers and ranchers are proud to continue our partnership with Michigan Fitness Foundation to support the Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Run,” said Michigan Beef Industry Commission Executive Director, George Quackenbush. “We want everyone to know how the nutrients in beef provide a high level of health benefits that fuel our bodies and support an active lifestyle.”
According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (Links to PDF in new window) recommendations, nutritional needs should be met from nutrient-dense foods and beverages because they provide vitamins, minerals, and other health promoting components needed for a healthy dietary pattern.
“Beef, when consumed in recommended serving sizes, provides many beneficial nutrients,” explained MFF Vice President Marci Scott, RDN. “Pairing lean beef with fiber rich vegetables, fruits and whole grains provides us with essential nutrition to be the strongest versions of ourselves in every stage of life.”
Michigan Beef Industry Commission staff will also be on site in Mackinaw City’s Indian Pathways Park near the Mackinac Bridge. A highlight from last year’s event, they will pass out flavorful beef jerky to showcase the shelf-stable, high protein snack along with Fresh Coast Beef Kabobs recipe cards to celebrate healthy eating and the tradition of grilling over the holiday weekend.
